Clinics and Services

button CARE DURING YOUR PREGNANCY AND AFTER DELIVERY

pregnant1.jpgThe midwives are based at Milngavie Clinic, Tuesday -Thursday.  They can be contacted by phoning 0141 232 4800.

After delivery of your baby, the practice-attached midwives will visit you at home. A postnatal check will also be carried out by your doctor at the surgery approximately six weeks after delivery. The health visitor will also see you in the interim and advise about vaccinations, given from 8 weeks old, and child health surveillance checks which are carried out at approximately six weeks of age.

CHILDHOOD IMMUNISATION

The Childhood Immunisation Programme is held in Milngavie Clinic and as a result children will no longer be vaccinated in the surgery setting. Parents will continue to receive a letter from the screening department detailing the date, time and location of their childs immunisation appointment.

The practice has been awarded “Baby Friendly” status.

button CONTRACEPTIVE SERVICES

All of the doctors offer contraceptive advice and prescriptions for contraception during normal surgery consultations. No special appointment is required.

If you require an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD or “coil”) you should attend the Family Planning Clinic at “Sandyford Initiative” – tel:0141 211 8601.

button CERVICAL SMEARS

The majority of cervical smears are carried out by our practice nurses. A recall system is in operation. Under normal circumstances smears are carried out every 3 years in women aged 25-50 years and then every 5 years until 65. Smears cannot be taken while you are menstruating. If your smear is due after you have had a baby, please wait for THREE months before making an appointment for this.

button CHILD HEALTH SURVEILLANCE CLINICS

501775_illness.jpgChecks on the general physical and developmental progress of your child are carried out by Dr Fraser or Dr Harkins and our health visitor at about six weeks of age. You will receive a letter from the Health Board with your appointment time.  This is normally a Wednesday afternoon.

Please check with our health visitor about the current timetable.

button DIABETIC SERVICES

Dr Fraser and Sister Bennet have a special interest in diabetes and run the diabetic clinics. They are assisted by a podiatrist and a dietician.

The practice also has links with a diabetic nurse specialist within the area.

button ASTHMA CARE

All of the doctors offer care for asthmatics within a normal surgery consultation. Sister Waterfield also offers asthma appointments. If you have been diagnosed as asthmatic, it is important to have a review with your doctor or Sister Waterfield at least on a yearly basis and sometimes more frequently depending on the level of control of your asthma. Please remember to bring all your inhalers with you when you attend for your asthma review.

button CRYOTHERAPY

Cryotherapy (“freezing”) using liquid nitrogen can be useful for treatment of warts, verrucae and certain other skin conditions including sun damage and skin tags. Dr Harrand, Dr Reid and Sister Bennet provide this service. Appointments can be made at reception.
